Spotify DJ

Spotify Premium users can mix their saved songs into a digital DJ set via their iPad/tablet.

Challenge

I wanted to make a DJ function for people who like to listen to music and want to try out DJ'ing inside Spotify. Then people are temped to use Spotify (more often) and learn how to DJ. It can be handy when there is a party.

Solution

Spotify DJ is an app where you can use a digital DJ set inside the app. You will mix two songs at once. There are also some other functions such as looping, relooping and speed. It is a pretty simple DJ set unlike most DJ sets because the Spotify app itself is also organized. The target audience is people who enjoy listening to music and DJ'ing. The client in my case was Spotify itself. (This was a concept, so it was not officially made for Spotify.) The data is collected by phones, laptops/computers, smartwatches, and iPads/tablets, but the DJ function only works on the iPad.

Why Spotify DJ?

This project began with choosing an app what you really like. I chose Spotify because I like listening to music.

Later I needed to think about what should be changed or added to the app, so I decided that there must be a DJ feature to attract new Spotify Premium users. Why I wanted to make a DJ function, was because I wanted to make something fun for the users so that they want to pay/continue to pay for Spotify Premium.

The requirement of this project was that the new/changed feature has something to do with data.

The data that Spotify DJ collects is how many Spotify Premium users use the new feature, how long they use it, and what they were listening.

All of the data was made up, so all of the songs are not real.
